Real Estate Weekly recently filed a feature story on how more multifamily owners are beginning to sell off some of their NYC buildings in light of the newly enacted rent regulations; meanwhile, residents at many of these properties are taking a “wait and see” approach in terms of moving and renter turnover has slowed down. Daniel Parker with Hodges Ward Elliott, who has closed deals on behalf of some of the top multifamily owners in the NYC market, comments that while developers are evaluating their portfolios because of these new regulations, he also hasn’t seen owners rushing to sell their properties.

First Financial Network is featured in Structured Credit Investor’s market roundup. The firm has announced the offering of three pools of Ukrainian non-performing loans totaling US$1.35bn. The largest of the three pools, the $540 million IMEXBANK loan portfolio, includes the real estate-owned Chornomorets Stadium in Odessa.

A Savitt Partners deal at 218 West 40th Street was included in The Real Deal’s roundup of the top ten retail leases in July. KFF, a Korean food hall, signed a multilevel lease at the property for 22,292-SF of space. Young Byunn of Winick Realty Group represented the tenant, while Brian Neugeboren, Nicole Goetz and Bob Savitt of Savitt Partners represented the landlord, 218 West 40th Associates.

Marx Realty received a 10-year $140 million loan from MetLife to refinance its recently repositioned Art Deco office tower, 10 Grand Central. A Cushman & Wakefield (C&W) team led by Steve Kohn and including Adam Doneger, Mark Ehlinger and Noble Carpenter III arranged the debt. The 438,000-SF property is now 91 percent leased by a mix of tech, medical, financial and entertainment tenants.

A number of real estate landlords are looking to esports as they look to breathe life into their malls, hotels and other properties. Brian Mirakian, brand activation director at Populous explains that investment in esports facilities are happening on multiple fronts as they look to capitalize on the fan base and live events. These venues range from ground-up (like the new Philadelphia Fusion Arena) or adaptive reuse of existing space, like the Arlington esports arena repurposed from an old convention center.
