HK Organization announced plans to renovate its historic four-story loft office building in Jersey City, and the securing of two new tenants with leases totaling more than 13,000-SF. A multimillion dollar renovation will take place at 333 Washington Street, including a new lobby and upgrades to all common areas and building systems. New leases include 11,349-SF for PuppySpot, an online marketplace that works with responsible breeders.The second tenant, an undisclosed e-commerce haircare company, leased 2,061 square feet on the second floor and has recently moved in.

Engineering News-Record Midwest announces its Class of 2021 Top Young Professionals, who are making a positive impact not only on construction, engineering and design, but on their broader communities as well. Making the list from Thornton Tomasetti is Mara Braselton, a senior associate in the Kansas City, Mo. office. Mara works internally with the firm’s structural engineers to design steel connections for the firm’s most complex steel projects, and bridges the gap between design and construction through innovative ways to deliver projects. Also on the list is Jason Carmello, a principal/architect at Populous in Kansas City, Mo. Over his 14-year career, he has participated in more than $2.5 billion worth of design and construction at projects such as PPG Paints Arena, Centre Videotron in Quebec City, and most recently as lead architect for UBS Arena in Elmont, NY.

Despite an extensive construction delay last spring due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the new home of the New York Islanders, UBS Arena, is on track to open its doors at the start of the 2021-22 NHL season. Keeping the 19,000-seat venue in Elmont, New York, on schedule required a good deal of coordination and flexibility from the project team, which includes Gary Storm and Eric Lumpkin from Thornton Tomasetti and Kurt Amundsen and Jason Carmello from Populous. They join representatives from contractor AECOM Hunt/Barton Malow and developer Oak View Group in a conversation with Engineering News-Record about the challenges of building a state-of-the-art arena in the current environment.

View, Inc’s smart windows will be installed in Dallas Fort Worth International Airport’s new expansion of Terminal D, a project that adds four gates to the terminal and showcases DFW’s “Gate of the Future,” a fundamental rethink of gate design in which the health and experience of passengers take priority. The expansion will be the first in an airport to deploy View’s latest smart building digital network, AI and machine learning powered environmental sensor modules, and transparent ultra-high-definition displays.

Front Yard Residential Corp. has been taken private as the $2.5 billion acquisition by Pretium and Ares Management Corp., making Pretium the second-largest owner and operator of single-family rental properties in the U.S. Fried Frank served as partnership legal counsel to Pretium. Pretium, an alternative investment management firm focused on residential real estate, mortgage finance and corporate credit that has more than $18 billion of assets under management, adds Front Yard’s portfolio of more than 14,500 rental homes to its portfolio that now spans more than 55,000 properties.
