At the height of stay-at-home orders during the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare facilities were essentially closed for non-emergency in-person care. Now that they’ve generally reopened, though, there’s a lingering concern that is keeping would-be patients away. In a new national survey performed by a coalition of cancer advocacy groups, a healthcare service organization and smart building company View, patients report they’re continuing to delay or cancel in person appointments for screenings (e.g., mammograms and colonoscopies), specialists and diagnostic testing, out of concern for the policies and conditions of the healthcare environments.

Jonathan Rose Companies has closed on a $525 million fund aimed at acquiring and preserving affordable housing and implementing green strategies to reduce environmental impacts and operating costs.Company leaders estimate that they will be able to acquire more than 40 properties and preserve between 5,000 and 7,000 units.

Thornton Tomasetti’s Al Badri Hiriyur, director of CORE and Grant McCullagh, Thornton Tomasetti director and managing director of its TTWiiN Accelerator LLC, are featured on Building Design & Construction’s webinar, The Weekly, about T2D2, a new AI tool that makes it easier, faster and less costly to inspect structures. Developed by Thornton Tomasetti using data from more than 50 years of its building inspection and forensic investigation work, the software as a service platform relies on artificial intelligence to identify and assess damage to building envelopes and structures. T2D2 is able to analyze images or videos taken by any type of camera to pinpoint current or potential condition issues.

Target is coming to the Cross County Center in Yonkers, NY, where it has signed a lease for 130,000-SF, taking most of the 200,000-SF left by Sears last year. The complex’s leasing and management are now in the hands of Marx Realty, which owns Cross County in partnership with Benenson Capital Partners for 65 years.

New York City real estate investor Mack Real Estate Group bought the Hub at Goodyear, a 794,000-SF speculative industrial development, for $59 million, making the sale one of the biggest industrial transactions of the year. Mack believes that logistics and distribution continue to be of the essence in an increasingly online retail economy, and that well-located industrial assets like The Hub at Goodyear are poised to outperform.

Jamie Kirkland, a senior project engineer at Thornton Tomasetti, has been selected as one of Commercial Observer‘s Top Young Pros in AEC. Jamie joined the firm in 2014 and her first big project was designing the structure of the Vessel. Kirkland is also working on the $550 million renovation of David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, where she is coordinating the installation of new theatrical infrastructure in the building’s attic space. Her team has to ensure that they work around the existing abandoned rigging and hangers while installing new catwalks, rigging points for wires, and other support systems for a modern theatrical production. Outside of work, she volunteers with the ACE Mentor Program. Architects, engineers and contractors meet with high schoolers twice a month to show them different aspects of the industry and help them work through a hypothetical construction project.
