Global design firm Populous served as architect of record for the new San Francisco Giants Player Development Center at Papago Park in Phoenix, Ariz. In collaboration with the Giants, Populous provided architectural, master plan oversight, interior design and interior signage services. This new center, which opened in February 2022, provides the team best-in-class training and development facilities. The San Francisco Giants Player Development Center was designed to incorporate the best features of elite training facilities, allowing the team to prepare players and coaches for both the Minor and Major League seasons.

Berman talked about Camber Creek’s proptech startup philosophy, what raising such a large fund means for a VC firm, and what he sees as the next hot areas in the industry. With more than $500 million in assets under management, the Washington, D.C.-based Camber Creek was founded in 2011 and has invested in notable proptech startups such as Notarize, Flex, FlyHomes, Measurabl, Curbio, HappyCo, Building Engines and Latch.

Commercial Observer’s Emily Fu reports on Standard Real Estate Investments’ close of a $30 million equity investment in a mixed-use development project at 1333 Broadway in Brooklyn’s Bushwick neighborhood, marking SREI’s first foray into New York City’s real estate market. SREI will work with Ekstein Tolbert Development to build a 107-unit, 20-story mixed-use building on the 30,766-square-foot site. “The acquisition of the site and development of a mixed-use property with an attainable residential component as a sizable portion of the project fits seamlessly with our investment philosophy,” said Jerome Nichols, co-founder and president of Standard REI.

Operating Officer Howard Rowland will become the firm’s new Chief Executive Officer. In addition, John K. Hagen, PE will be elevated to Interim Chief Operating Officer. Currently an Executive Vice-President with more than 40 years of senior construction leadership experience, Hagen will oversee all of EW Howell’s construction operations.

Simone Development Companies acquired Triangle Plaza Hub, a 50,000 square-foot grocery-anchored retail and medical office condominium in the Bronx’s Mott Haven neighborhood for $32 million from Triangle Equities. Triangle Plaza Hub features a healthcare and food-centric tenant-mix anchored by Fine Fare supermarket and Sun River Health. Other tenants at the property include DaVita, Dunkin’, Boston Market and Vistasite Eyecare. The LEED certified complex is 97% occupied.

The RADCO Cos. acquired The American Hotel, a 315-room, full-service hotel in downtown Atlanta. Legacy Ventures sold the property for an undisclosed price but will stay on to manage the property. Opened in 1962 as the American Motor Hotel, the property was the first racially integrated hotel in downtown Atlanta. Legacy Ventures completed a $16 million renovation program in 2017, including rebranding the property as The American Hotel, to restore and revitalize the property. The Radco Cos. plans to build on these upgrades and rebrand the asset to Hilton’s new Tapestry Collection brand.

Software company Sigma Computing Inc. has leased 15,500 square feet of office space at Zero Irving, an office tower under development by RAL Companies in Manhattan’s Union Square neighborhood. Sigma will occupy the full ninth floor under a five-year deal.
