Empire State Realty Trust, Hines and affordable housing providers Omni New York and L+M Development Partners are slashing emissions at seven buildings through a combination of retrofits and carbon offsets — off-site investment in carbon-reducing projects such as wind farms. The four have also committed to replicating the energy-saving solutions across their combined 37 million square feet of buildings, to help serve as a blueprint for other landlords in the city. The article also references Hines’ upgrades at 345 Hudson Street and its plan to merge it with 555 Greenwich Street, one of the most sustainable office buildings.

Marx Realty has acquired a 110,000-SF office building in Washington, D.C.’s Georgetown neighborhood from JBG SMITH for $27.7 million. The six-story building at 2121 Wisconsin Avenue has experienced active leasing, including the expansion of Nexstar Media Group to 28,766 SF on the full third floor and part of the first floor. Another tenant is CommuniKids, a language immersion preschool, which occupies 8,900 square feet on the first floor.

The Durst Organization has installed View smart windows in its recently completed, 67-story Sven rental apartment tower in Long Island City, Queens, making it the tallest residential building in North America to feature View’s technology. “So an opportunity to work with View and to have that experience for the renter, where they can maintain [an unobstructed] panoramic view while keeping their blinds open, but also having the ability to control the tint for privacy purposes without lowering their shade, has been received really well by prospective renters and those that have started renting in the building,” said Dan Mogolesko, senior vice president of residential at Durst.

staffing issues due to the Omicron strain, and how their respective firms are managing. Census Household Pulse Survey data shows that over the last month, approximately 8.8 million workers reported missing work either because they were sick with the coronavirus or caring for someone else who was ill. Bob Zirkel, Vice President at New York City-based general contractor EW Howell Construction Group, has had to cover projects where supervisors are either stretched through their hours and the company can’t schedule them to fill the site. Workers are having to think fast and fill slots as needed, even by executives and upper-level managers.
