Architecture studio Pickard Chilton has had two of its projects — Akamai Technologies’ global headquarters building in Cambridge, MA and the design concept for Uber Sky Loft in Melbourne, Australia — recognized by AIA Connecticut’s 2022 Sustainable Architecture awards. The program recognizes the efforts of licensed CT architects who have developed and demonstrated ways to secure a more sustainable and environmentally thriving future. Equally important is the creation of durable, comfortable, and healthy spaces.

Retail by Mona has hired a team of three specializing in the food and beverage space to expand its business offerings. Alexandra Turboff, previously a partner at restaurant brokerage Branded Concept Development, which was recently bought by retail brokerage RIPCO, is joining Retail by Mona as executive vice president. Her former associate partners at BCD, Jason Lloyd and Marisa Simkin, also will join the firm as senior associates. Their collective expertise “will add a new dimension to our team as we navigate the challenges and opportunities of the ever-evolving retail landscape,” said Brandon Singer, CEO of Retail by Mona.

When Marx Realty, the York-based owner-developer acquired 545 Madison Avenue in December 2019, occupancy was at 68% and in danger of falling to 40%. With 76,500 square feet of new and extended leases, 545 Madison is now 100% occupied. A Cushman & Wakefield team led by Tara Stacom represented Marx in lease deals for Vialto Partners, Qurate Retail Group, Ogden Capital, Corniche Growth Advisors and a well-known private equity firm.

Simone Development Companies and Stagg Group have commenced construction on West View Apartments, a 186-unit affordable housing development that marks Phase 2 of a mixed-use project at 26 Garden Street in New Rochelle, NY. It consists of a 208,000-SF, 24-story tower with 34 studios, 96 one-bedroom and 56 two-bedroom units. Phase 1 of the project, consisting of a six-story building, was completed last summer by the Simone/Stagg partnership, and includes the new home of the New Rochelle Family Court.

The corporate event and performing arts center for approximately 1,800 people features a signature sawtooth facade and is supported by long-span steel trusses. The article appeared in the August issue of Modern Steel Construction.
