This week, global design firm Populous celebrates the opening of Southeast Aurora’s 77,000-square-foot recreation center and field house. Populous was selected to design the recreation center and field house. The project is the second ground-up recreation center constructed in more than 40 years for the city.

The Chicago Business Journal featured 10 professionals to watch, among them Julie Heigel, senior vice president of acquisitions at Waterton. The real estate investment and property management company’s apartment portfolio consists of more than 6,700 units including nearly 5,400 units downtown. Heigel joined Waterton in 2018, responsible for sourcing and underwriting multifamily acquisitions in the eastern U.S.

FirstService Residential, New York’s leading residential property management company, has been tapped by GO Partners as property manager for One United Nations Park, an ultra-luxury residential tower in the Murray Hill neighborhood of Manhattan. The property at 685 First Avenue comprises a mix of 148 jewel box condominiums, 408 rental units, more than 15,000 square feet of amenities, and a ground floor retail component.

In this week’s Realty Check column in the New York Post, Steve Cuzzo reports on MediaCo Holding, Inc’s new lease at 48 West 25th Street in Manhattan. MediaCo, owner of iconic New York radio stations HOT 97 and WBLS, has taken a long-term lease at the 127,130-SF property, for use as new broadcast studio and headquarters for the radio stations, which play hip hop and R&B hits. Savanna acquired 48 West 25th Street in 2018 and carried out a comprehensive capital improvement program, which included a full lobby renovation, retail façade renovation and new prebuilt program. Savanna was represented by Ethan Silverstein, Theodora Livadiotis and Bruce Mosler with Cushman & Wakefield. MediaCo was represented by Anthony LoPresti, also with Cushman & Wakefield, in the transaction.

Gary Mozer and his team are headed to Marcus & Millichap’s IPA division, where they will continue to line up debt and equity on commercial properties. Mozer comes to M&M’s IPA divison as an executive managing director, after 38 years at George Smith, where he was a co-founding partner. Lee Norman, Tommy Adelson and Broderick “Brody” Flagg are slated to depart next week for IPA, the unit of Marcus & Millichap that focuses on institutional-quality assets.

AEC Angels is an alliance of industry veterans that partnered to evaluate and make individual strategic investments in early-stage companies with promising technological advances. Members include Thornton Tomasetti, STO Building Group, Syska Hennessy, and SHoP Architects. The AEC Angels have endorsed Aeromine and its innovative ability to bring significantly more renewable energy to building owners across numerous industry segments. Chemical giant BASF is one of the companies that’s testing the Aeromine technology at its manufacturing plant in Wyandotte, Michigan.
