Janell Walker of EW Howell Construction Group was honored with a 2018 Diversity Champion award from the New York Tri-State Chapter of the National Association of Minority Contractors (NAMC) on November 16. The NAMC is the oldest minority construction trade association in the country. Presented along with awards in six other categories during the association’s Inaugural Holiday Gala at Terrace on the Park, the Diversity Champion award is given to individuals that support the advancement of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and who have exceeded their diversity requirements on public projects. Savanna, a New York City-based real estate investment manager, owner/operator and developer, has acquired 48 West 25th Street, a 12-story, 126,256-square-foot office and retail building located on 25th Street between Broadway and Sixth Avenue in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood. A transformative $21 million capital improvement and leasing campaign will also be carried out at the building.

Joseph Kelleher, president of Simone Development Companies, talks about the proposal to include an on/off ramp from the south-bound Hutchinson Metro Parkway that would run through the company-owned Hutch Metro Center, and lead drivers to Marconi Street. This is an attempt to relieve traffic that backs up on Waters Place, the main thoroughfare that accesses Marconi Place. Since the street leads in and out of the area’s major commercial developments, this change could even encourage economic development.

Avison Young, the brokers for 500 North Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey, NJ completed five new leases totaling 11,600 SF for Mountainside Treatment Center, Opulence Funding, Senior Solutions Group, The Marchese Group and WWEX. Avison Young senior vice presidents Marc S. Krieger and Steven Geltzeiler represented landlord Highstone Equity Group in the deals at the 139,000 SF property. This activity increases the building’s occupancy rate after last year’s departure of UPS from 68,000 SF.
