A new affordable housing development in East Harlem by Jonathan Rose, L+M and Acacia Network Housing is set to begin construction on the project’s first phase, which will be complete in 2022. On Madison Avenue and 110th Street, the 361-unit Sendero Verde features housing options for a wide, wide range of incomes and is aiming to be the first Passive House development of its size in North America. Passive House features might reduce energy consumption at the building by 70%. The building will also offer access to a school, social services and green spaces.

Joanna Simone, vice president of leasing and property management operations at Simone Development Companies was named as one of Crain’s New York Business‘ Rising Stars in Real Estate 2019. Joanna has completed more than 100 lease transactions over the past year and is one of CoStar’s Power Brokers of the Year in 2015. She is active with the March of Dimes of Westchester and the Westchester Square Business Improvement District.

Peg Blackall has been named VP of design and construction at Waterton. The industry veteran will oversee the firm’s architectural, design and construction processes. Blackall was most recently the director of project management at Cushman & Wakefield in Chattanooga, TN, responsible for the project management of over 2.2 million square feet of main campuses. With more than 20 years of experience, Blackall has assembled and managed construction teams for projects totaling more than $600 million. For Waterton, she’ll develop programming, budgets, schedules and manage complex construction projects.

Local grocery chain Food Bazaar, a local grocery chain, has signed a 20-year, 45,885-SF lease at a new, 19-story affordable residential project at 201 East 125th Street in East Harlem. ABS Partners Real Estate’s Mark Tergesen and Joe Italiaander represented Food Bazaar in the deal. The grocery store will serve as the anchor tenant and plans to open in 2022. The developers were represented by Ripco Real Estate as well as Michael Berfield of Bridges Development Group.

A Savitt Partners team arranged a 1,855-SF lease at 501 Madison Avenue, which will house the new showroom and offices of Caruso Menswear, an Italian clothier. Caruso, known for its luxurious and playful Italian tailoring, is headquartered in Sorgana, Italy and has one showroom in Milan. Alicia Parente and Roger Mazzeo of Savitt Partners represented Caruso in the deal, while Timothy Pond and Alexander Jinishian of Colliers International represented the landlord, KWR Realty.

A team comprised of Pickard Chilton, a New Haven, Conn.-based architecture firm, and Arup, global design and consulting firm, partnered on a design concept for a new Uber Air Skyport, the second year the partnership participated in the Uber Elevate Summit. Pickard Chilton + Arup’s design was intended for Melbourne, Australia. The skyports will allow hundreds of vehicles to take off quickly and land daily in dense urban areas. Uber Air expects to start offering travelers affordable shared flights starting in 2023.

TTWiiN Investment Partners, the innovation investment arm of Thornton Tomasetti, has invested in XtreeE, a Paris-based technology company focusing on large-scale 3D printing solutions for the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. XtreeE helps clients with collaborative design and large-scale prototype manufacturing and also offers access to large-scale 3D printing systems and is currently helping to open a new production unit in the United Arab Emirates.

Crain’s New York Business reveals the Coolest Offices in New York. Marx Realty’s office at 10 Grand Central snagged a finalist spot in the “coolest new construction” category. The real estate management and development firm created a 1930s hotel–like feel, installing polished concrete floors, black steel–framed windows and brushed-brass fixtures. The office also has a 2,200-square-foot outdoor terrace.
